Which format?
- JPG: works everywhere. Best for photos.
- PNG: keeps transparency and sharp edges. Best for logos, screenshots and graphics.
- WebP / AVIF: much smaller files for websites, and they keep transparency.
- ICO: the favicon format for websites. Several sizes are packed into one file.
- HEIC → JPG makes iPhone photos open on any computer. Sideways photos are turned the right way up.
- Animated GIFs are converted using their first frame. Photo details hidden in the file (EXIF, such as GPS location) are removed.
